Vaccinations:
Please
make sure your dog is current on all vaccinations (including
Bordetella and Parvo) and is worm free, we want everyone
to stay happy and healthy!
- 2.
Veterinarian
and Shelter Visits? Veterinarians
and Animal Shelters contain many dogs with a variety
of health issues, some contagious. Please try and schedule
routine visits or vaccinations at least 2 weeks prior
to coming to camp. If you volunteer at a Shelter/Rescue,
you're performing a well needed service, but
if you could please refrain from doing so 1-2 weeks
prior to your dogs visit it will help prevent the possibility
of any unwanted illnesses being transmitted. Thanks
for your help in keeping everyone happy AND healthy!
- 3.
What about fleas and
ticks? I've
only seen ticks on one of our horses, haven't seen a
flea and we don't want them!! Please make sure your
dog is tick and flea free before coming to camp. Upon
your pets arrival if we find they have ticks or fleas
they will be kept separately and treated (at your cost)
with Frontline Plus, or other appropriate treatment.
- 4.
What are the chances my dog will
pick up a disease like Kennel Cough? We
take every precaution possible to protect
your pet from communicable diseases. The reality is
that your dog can pick up kennel cough, parvo, and many
other contagious diseases just about anywhere. Pet stores,
dog parks, vets, kennels, groomers, etc....are just
a few places this can happen, you can even bring diseases
home to your dog on your shoes (Parvo). We clean and
disinfect the house, yard, feed and water pans daily
to help prevent this from happening. Though some diseases
are airborn( kennel cough) and hard to prevent. Rest
assured we want your dog, and our own, to stay healthy
and will do whatever it takes to accomplish this.
- 5.
Where will my dog sleep? Most
dogs pick one of our 10 dog beds to call their own while
they stay at camp, though some prefer to sleep in bed
with me or on the sofa, whatever makes them comfortable
is fine with us!
- 6.
What will my dog eat? You
should bring your pets own food, just remember they'll
be getting lots of exercise and will probably need some
extra calories (extra food) to maintain weight (unless
your dog needs to shed some extra pounds!).
- 7.
Can I bring a raw diet for my dog?
Not a problem, We have a deep freeze to accommodate
raw diets.
- 8.
Should I bring treats?
It's up to you, we bake our own natural treats (which
are also for sale at camp), but will be happy to give
your pet their own "private stash" if you'd
like.
- 9.
Do you take credit cards?
At this point no, though checks are fine.
- 10.
What happens if my dog becomes ill while I'm away? When
you arrive you will fill out a form with all your dogs
info., including your Vets name. If you dog has a problem,
We call your Vet first, if they're not available We'll
use our Vet (Salazar).
- 11.
Do you take aggressive dogs? No,
the only time we take "problem" dogs is if
they are in training or being rehabilitated, they'll
be kept separately from the other campers. First and
foremost our camp was created to serve your beloved
Best Friend!
- 12.
Do you take small dogs? Yes,
We love little dogs! Since our campers are never left
alone, small dogs owners can feel comfortable that their
little pooch will be safe!
- 13.
When my dog goes out for hikes will they be in a large
group? We go on many hikes during
the day, some short, some long, dogs are matched with
other like minded dogs and the groups are kept small
(3-5) so that they receive proper attention.
- 14.
Will my dog be turned loose in a large group immediately?
No, We introduce new campers slowly. We want our Campers
to have a fun and safe visit, We've found that a slow
introduction to new friends is best.
- 15.
Is Taos Dog Camp like a Dog Park? No,
boarding in a group environment is not the same thing
as going to a dog park. Dog parks can be a great place
for dogs to play...however, dog parks are typically
not supervised by an experienced handler who is trained
to identify and redirect potential behavioral issues.
For example, wagging tails may not necessarily indicate
kindly intentions, mounting is rarely sexual, it is
more likely a challenge (often by an insecure dog) and
repeated mounting can even escalate into a fight. Unfortunately,
many dogs have been injured and even killed at dog parks
or other facilities because of unsupervised dogs and
inexperienced dog handlers. Your dog will NEVER be unsupervised
while visiting Taos Dog Camp!
- 16.
What are your hours? Since We're
here 24/7/365 they're pretty flexible, especially if
it's an emergency...Our normal hours for drop off and
pick up are 8:00am till 6:00pm 7 days a week, even holidays!
- 17.
Can We visit the Ranch? Absolutely!
We prefer to meet all prospective campers before they
come for a stay. Since We spend most of our time with
our Dog Campers, and our gate stays locked for our equines
safety, we
request that you make an appointment before coming out.
- 18.
Will my
dog get dirty while at camp?
Hmmm....having fun playing with other dog friends, swimming,
and long hikes in the forest pretty much guarantees
they'll get dirty...but don't worry they'll go home
clean, all campers receive baths and nail trimming free
with a 3 night stay!
- 19.
Should
I bring my dog's bed and toys?
It's up to you. We have plenty of large dog beds available
for your dog to use, but if you think they'll feel more
at home with their own...bring it along (please label
them). As for toys, the same applys...just remember
that other doggie friends will probably play with them
too (Dog Camp is not responsible if bed or toys are
damaged by other dog friends!).
- 20.
My
dog has a health condition and requires medication 3
times a day, will that be a problem and will there be
an extra charge? No to both questions,
daily medication is not a problem, just bring your dogs
meds and they will be administered per your Vets directions.
- 21.
Do
you offer grooming?
Yes, professional all breed grooming is available.
